Attendance

Alban City School recognises that good attendance is essential in order for pupils to get the most out of their school experience, including their attainment, wellbeing and wider life chances.  We monitor attendance closely and strive to ensure that every pupil is attending school regularly. Mrs Carter is our Attendance lead, she works closely with parents and the Local Authority to support good levels of attendance for all pupils.

Sometimes children are not well enough for school, but it can be tricky for parents to make this decision. There is some helpful guidance on this NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school/

• If your child has mild symptoms of an illness such as a runny nose, sore throat, or slight cough, but are otherwise well, they can continue to come to school as usual.
• If your child is unwell and has a high temperature they should stay at home and avoid contact with other people, where they can. They can come back to school and resume normal activities when they no longer have a high temperature and they are well enough to attend.
• Children with diarrhoea or vomiting should stay away from school until they have not been sick or had diarrhoea for at least 2 days (48 hours).

Reporting absence

If your child  is not well enough to attend school, we ask Parents/Carers to kindly notify the school by calling the school office.  This must happen by 9am on the first day of absence, and we ask that you keep the school informed during any prolonged absence.

Lateness

Parents/Carers are asked to ensure that their children arrive at school promptly each day. We operate a Soft-Start here, meaning you can arrive anytime between 8:30am and 8:50am. Registration is between 8:50am and 9am. If your child arrives between 9:00am and 9:15am, they will be marked as Late. Arrivals after 9:15am will be marked as unauthorised absence (unless the school is already aware of a planned absence)  Late arrivals must be signed in at the school office.

Requesting leave of absence

Holidays during term time cannot be authorised by the Headteacher.  Parents/Carers needing to take their child out of school during term time must complete a form.  Only exceptional absences will be authorised by the Headteacher.  Click here for the Leave of Absence Form: Leave of Absence Request Form
