Welcome to Alban City School

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Alban City School. Our school’s ethos is centred around children’s happiness, wellbeing and high achievement. We are passionately committed to providing an excellent education and high quality learning environment for our pupils so that every child enjoys coming to school and achieves the best possible outcomes during their time with us. We are an inclusive, diverse and values driven school, and aim to develop kind, resilient, respectful and responsible young people, who will carry these values with them throughout their lives.

We are very proud of our learning environment in the heart of our beautiful city.  We have a lovely light, modern and spacious building, with some amazing facilities including a 120 seat theatre, a specialist cookery room, a large sports hall and a vibrant playground. Visits to our school are warmly encouraged, and our friendly office team are always happy to answer any questions from prospective parents.

Alban City School is a state funded school for primary aged children. Our school opened in September 2012 on the former School of Law site in Hatfield Road. We became part of Ambition Education Trust in September 2026.

The school warmly welcomes children aged 4–11 years old of all abilities, faiths, social and cultural backgrounds.  With around 40 different languages spoken by our international school community, we are proud to be truly inclusive and representative of the city of St Albans.

I hope you enjoy exploring our website to find out more about our school, and I look forward to welcoming you to the Alban City community.

All staff plan opportunities and experiences that draw carefully on children's interests. As a consequence, almost all children are immersed in the daily activities. They happily play and learn indoors and out, with a wider range of resources at hand than at the time of the previous inspection. They take turns when role-playing patiently with one another, showing excellent behaviour and attitudes to learning.
Pupils are excited when they arrive at Alban City School. They greet staff and the schools dog enthusiastically at the school gates. Pupils enjoy the range of opportunities that are available as part of the academic curriculum and beyond. Pupils talk enthusiastically about the variety of trips and visitors to school that support them with their learning .They value the range of clubs and activities that they can join in with
Pupils feel happy and are safe at school. They warmly welcome others, including new pupils who join the school from overseas. This helps to create a highly inclusive ethos in the school.

There are five primary and five secondary schools, with over 800 staff delivering high-quality education to 7500 young people from the ages 3 to 18. This is a huge privilege and one we take seriously, to achieve our central aim of Educational Excellence for All.
